What this site covers
Austin Working looks at the city from the point of view of the people who work in it. We write about the shape of the local job market, the industries that do the hiring — technology and semiconductors, government and education, healthcare, and the music-and-service economy — and what it's actually like to build a career in a city that spent a decade as everyone's favorite boom town. We're not a job-listings service and we don't scrape openings; we point you to the real sources and explain what you're looking at.
Our approach
Every page here is built to be useful, honest, and free of clutter. No pop-ups, no paywalls, no auto-playing video — just clear writing and photography we're allowed to use. When we cite a figure, we try to tell you where it came from, and when something is our read on the market rather than a hard number, we say so.
Who publishes this
Austin Working is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin publisher that has been building websites since 1996, starting with the spring.com BBS — one of Austin's first online communities. Today the network spans a hundred-plus sites, each focused on a single subject, all running on a single server.
